What to expect at your first visit

Know what happens before you sit in the dental chair. Your first Stafford Smiles visit starts with a conversation and an exam.

First, we listen

We ask about your health, medicines, past dental care, and concerns. Tell us about pain, fear, or a change in your mouth. Bring your questions with you.

Next, we check your mouth

We look at your teeth, gums, and bite. We may take X-rays if needed. Ask whether a cleaning is planned; the right type depends on your gum health.

Then, we explain your choices

We show you what we find and discuss what care may help. Ask about benefits, risks, other choices, and what can wait. You can take time to understand the plan.

Before treatment, ask for an estimate and find out what your dental plan may cover. Call ahead if you need forms, help with access, or extra time.
