When removal may be needed
A badly broken tooth, deep decay, or severe gum disease may make a tooth hard to save. We explain whether repair is possible before planning to remove it.

What is socket preservation?
After a tooth comes out, the space it leaves is called a socket. A bone graft may help keep the shape of that area for a future implant. It does not guarantee that an implant will be possible or that no more grafting is needed.
Healing at home
We numb the area and give you a care plan. Follow instructions for food, cleaning, and rest. Risks include bleeding, infection, and a painful healing problem called dry socket. Call if bleeding will not stop or pain gets worse.
Before care, ask about the total cost and whether you want to replace the tooth with an implant, bridge, or denture.
Common questions
Will I need a graft?
Not everyone does. Your plans for the gap and the condition of the bone help guide that choice.
When should I seek urgent help?
If swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, seek emergency care right away.
This is general information. An exam helps us find the right care for you.
